Martha Oates, APN-BC, OCN
Martha is a Medical Advanced Practice Nurse at Blue Star Recovery, with more than thirty years of experience in nursing and certification as a Nurse Practitioner since 2016. Her career has spanned oncology, hospice, and primary care, and that breadth informs how she approaches substance use treatment today. Martha came to this work wanting to be more involved in her local community, and she saw clear value in integrating primary care with substance use disorder treatment rather than keeping the two separate. At Blue Star Recovery she provides medication-assisted treatment alongside comprehensive primary care, addressing the medical needs that often go unattended during addiction. Patient and community education is central to her practice, and she takes time to make sure clients understand their own care. Outside of work, Martha is a dedicated gardener who grows both flowers and vegetables, tends a butterfly sanctuary, and has a particular fondness for hydrangeas.
